D’una nit. Actions of Asymmetrical Proximity
Curated by Myriam Rubio
De una noche. Acciones de proximidad asimétrica proposes a reconsideration of the concept of friendship from an ecological and interspecies perspective in the Vall de Santa Creu.
The event is a day of performance bringing together artists Lu Chieregati, Anna Cornudella, Javier Peñafiel, and Carme Torrent to explore friendship as an expanded and radical concept that challenges relationships and hierarchies beyond an anthropocentric perspective. The project draws on Spinoza’s notion of meaningful encounters and on the potential of collective assemblages in Deleuze and Guattari, bringing these ideas into dialogue with contemporary theories of ecosystems and hybrid kinships developed by Donna Haraway, Vinciane Despret, and Ursula K. Le Guin.
Through the body, image, voice, and language, these four interventions merge with the surroundings of the Vall de Santa Creu as afternoon gives way to a particular summer night, allowing themselves to be permeated by the destabilising spirit of Puck and Shakespeare’s forest. Here, night unfolds not merely as a backdrop, but as a space-time of transformation and radical interdependence; a permeable territory where climate, botany, living beings, and non-human creatures intertwine to experiment with collective methodologies of attention, observation, and asymmetrical proximity. A threshold for learning to “become with others” and to remember, as K. Le Guin suggested, that collective connection is the only hand that can save us.
Ultimately, De una noche functions as a political reflection and an exercise in ecological humility; an act of resistance against the instrumentalisation of our time, seeking to create affective and artistic ecosystems by proposing new forms of coexistence in which to live, survive, and think together.
