ARBAR EDITIONS

Edicions ARBAR stems from a commitment to extending the artistic, research and critical processes developed within ARBAR. Publishing is not conceived as a subsequent act of documentation, but as an active part of the process itself: a space in which experience, action, image, language and memory can take on new forms and generate new readings.

The publications often emerge from practices connected to territory, the body, performativity, the relationships between culture and nature, memory and processes of transformation. Moving into publication makes it possible to revisit these materials, establish relationships between them and extend them beyond the specific moment in which they were produced. To publish is, in this sense, to reactivate.

Edicions ARBAR operates across the fields of the artist’s book, research publication, archive and experimental publishing, without establishing rigid boundaries between them. Each project determines its own form, materiality and structure. The formal diversity of the publications should therefore not be understood as a lack of unity, but as a commitment to ensuring that each edition maintains a close relationship with the artistic process from which it emerges.

At the same time, these publications progressively form an editorial collection through which the research lines developed by ARBAR can be traced, alongside the contributions of the artists, writers, researchers and other participants involved. This body of work builds a critical memory of the project and provides a resource for future research, reinterpretation and new connections.

Printed and digital editions are conceived as complementary formats. The book retains its status as an object, its material qualities and its capacity to create a specific reading experience, while digital publishing broadens access, consultation and circulation, and opens up new possibilities for establishing relationships between texts, images, documents, sound and moving images.

Edicions ARBAR seeks to make publishing a space for the production of knowledge. The aim is not merely to preserve what has taken place, but to question it, reorganise it and set it back into circulation. In this sense, editing and publishing are also curatorial practices: selecting, relating, contextualising and creating the conditions through which an experience can be read from another time and another place.

From this perspective, each publication is simultaneously artwork, document, research and archive, and forms part of an editorial project that understands culture as a living process of transmission, transformation and reactivation.
